Ten reasons to choose Centered Yoga at Samahita Retreat

By Elonne Stockton

Deciding which training to attend just got a little easier.

Anyone who considers training to teach yoga must sift through a plethora of programs and schools.  How are they to choose which to attend?  Ultimately, the decision is up to the individual, but let us offer ten reasons why Centered Yoga at Samahita Retreat’s teacher training (TT) is incomparable.

Besides the fact that we offer one of the most beautiful settings in the world, where you will experience the natural beauty of Thailand (there’ll be extra time for complimentary snorkeling trips, moonlight swims, excursions around Samui Island, etc.), you will find our TT offers:

  1. Experience that works both ways – We offer our students our experience plus the opportunity to glean their own experience.  Our TT has been around for over fifteen years, offering students a curriculum that’s always led by veteran teachers under the direction of Paul Dallaghan. Teaching and assisting asana starts from the first days of the program, ensuring every teacher-in-training will have an opportunity during the session to acquire direct instruction experience.
  2. Total immersion – We are one of the few TTs that offer a total immersion.  Six days a week, you wake up and join your colleagues and instructors in practices and studies. There are breaks, but over the month you are here full time, and you establish a supportive and meaningful routine. You are in a focused learning environment, where you will live the training and learn through practice how to incorporate it into your daily routine.
  3. All-inclusive – Unlike most other trainings that only include the teaching/training itself, we provide both food and accommodation. Although you may choose to leave the retreat on your day off to explore the island, you actually never need to leave. We take care of everything for you so that you can focus on your studies and integrating the knowledge. We even have laundry service and daycare available.
  4. Individual attention – We keep our teaching groups small. With this low student-to-teacher ratio, you will always receive plenty of individual attention.
  5. Extra training time – Our training actually exceeds the minimal 200 hours. You receive approximately 100 hours of additional training beyond the basic Yoga Alliance requirements.  These hours accrue during the month onsite as well as while completing your pre-course assignments—readings and study done in advance to help you prepare for the course.
  6. Yoga Alliance accreditation – For those interested in pursuing Yoga Alliance accreditation, we are a recognized school at both the 200- and 300-hour levels.
  7. Yoga in its entirety – You will have classical training in pranayama, something few western teachers have background in, and you will have precise training in asana and the vinyasa system.  We provide you the opportunity to develop an advanced and dedicated yoga practice, and we help to mold the teacher in you.  You will leave with a knowledge of fundamental yogic texts, chants and mantras, as well as the basics of anatomy and physiology that help to understand how yoga affects the whole human system.
  8. Rich tradition – Ours is a program that prides itself on a rich tradition of teaching and sharing in a holistic approach to yoga. We come from a lineage that goes back to Swami Kuvalauananda, who established the Kaivalyadhama Institute in Lonavala, India, in 1924. He gained recognition as he lifted the experiences and effects of yoga practices into the light of scientific study. His student, Sri O.P. Tiwari, continued this work at the center and visits Samahita regularly, as Paul Dallaghan is one of his devoted students.
  9. Work-relaxation balance – Everything you do here will be in a focused, healthy environment far from the distractions of home, where letting go of all the burdens of life beyond the retreat for a few weeks feels safe and right. Essentially, you are at the beach with like-minded people in an idyllic setting.10reson
  10. A home away from home – Our comfortable rooms, healthy and delicious food, warm and caring staff, and the extra attention given to all the details of your stay make us a home away from home.  Many of our students return often, and they consider us like a second home.
